BioRogue

VFX Artist (Godot) at Grizzly Moose Games

πŸ“ Remote | πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ Canada | ⏳ Short-term contract

About Us πŸŸπŸ”«

Grizzly Moose Games is a fully remote indie studio based in Canada. We're building BioRogue, a 3D twin-stick action roguelite with intense bullet hell combat, set on a genetically twisted island ruled by the splicing-obsessed King Aric. You fight with living cybernetic fish-guns and a deep mutation system that lets every run turn into something new.

We're a small team that cares a lot about the game and about each other. We value open communication, kindness, and doing great work together.

Who We're Looking For 🀝

  • Talented, with a strong eye for game feel and readable effects
  • Respectful and friendly, someone who makes the team better to work with
  • Self-motivated and comfortable working remotely
  • Open to feedback and excited to iterate

What You'll Do πŸ’₯

  • Create and refine VFX and particles in Godot 4.7 using the engine's built-in tools
  • Give our existing VFX some love, especially our blood system
  • Build new effects across the game, including:
    • Attack VFX (fish-gun shots, impacts, mutations)
    • Environmental VFX (bio-labs, warped ecosystems, regime strongholds)
    • UI VFX
  • Work closely with art and engineering to keep effects readable in busy bullet hell combat

Requirements πŸ› οΈ

  • Proven ability to create and refine visual effects in the Godot game engine
  • Experience with Godot particle systems and shaders
  • A portfolio showing real-time VFX work

Nice to Have 🌟

  • Experience with action, roguelite, or bullet hell games
  • Familiarity with optimizing VFX for performance

Compensation πŸ’°

We're a start-up studio with very limited funds, and this role is supported by the small amount of accelerator funding we've received. We want to be upfront about what that means:

  • $30 to $45 CAD per hour, based on experience
  • Short-term contract with a fixed budget and a clear set of VFX goals
  • Higher rates are absolutely on the table, but since the budget is fixed, a higher rate comes with higher expectations for quality and output per hour

How to Apply πŸ“¬

Send your resume and portfolio to studio@grizzlymoosegames.com with "VFX Artist" in the subject line. Tell us a little about yourself and an effect you're proud of!
